The History Of Fashionable Lingerie

by Stephanie Elms

Anyone knows that fashion is not stagnant. Lingerie is no different; however, one might argue that it was not always created to be fashionable. So how did one of the most sought after garments become such a popular piece? It is an evolution, a process that has drawn us under its spell for centuries.

At its onset, lingerie was created to frame a woman's silhouette. Does not sound much different than its purpose today, but much has evolved in its design since those ancient times. Lingerie roots date back as far as about 2000 B.C. in Crete in which the first piece looked much like a corset. Most lingerie in the early times was made of wool and linen and for those with maximum resources there was silk.

Soon petticoats and corsets began to take center stage and with the advancement of the cotton gin, we began to see many pieces made of cotton materials. Eventually, in the early 20th century the number of ever increasing lingerie manufactures prompted the need for public advertising. The first advertisement was placed in the Saturday Evening Post in 1911 and focused on the undergarments comfort and durability, rather than its visual appeal.

Next, camisoles evolved and even began to showcase lacier silk trends. The brassiere shortly followed. Its developer is relatively controversial but most people credit Mary Phelps Jacob as the founder of what is now a mainstream lingerie item.

Of course who could forget bloomers? They made their debut and quickly gave way to the sexier panties that are popular today.

Through history, many lingerie pieces have arrived onto the scene but much has changed about their fashion sense. As the saying goes, history repeats itself so what we see are relatively the same core pieces but up-scaled by color, designs, comfort, durability, and materials that are always cutting edge.

What we wear says a lot about who we are. Lingerie, unlike shoes, dresses, and handbags is not worn as outwardly for the world to see. So you may ask...why bother when I can buy plain garments that serve the same purpose. Only you can answer that question. What we wear is often a direct reflection of who we are and how we feel about ourselves. Don't kid yourself... you are beautiful on the inside and out. So even if no one ever sees it, wear it with enjoyment knowing you are a magnificent woman!

At www.verysupersexylingerie.com you will discover how to look like a gorgeous lingerie model. You'll learn secrets every lingerie model knows to accentuate her assets and hide her imperfections...no matter her dress size.

About the Author

Stephanie is the owner of La Bella Amour Lingerie, the premier on-line boutique catering to all your fashionable lingerie and spa product needs.
How To Care For Your Lingerie

by Stephanie Elms

Have you ever found the most beautiful piece of lingerie, the right color, and the perfect fit only to destroy it in the wash before getting to really enjoy it? Unfortunately this needlessly happens way too often and is completely preventable.

Dry cleaning is probably the easiest way to clean your precious pieces; however, not everyone is comfortable dropping into their local cleaners with a basket full of intimates. Perhaps not such a bad option if you aren't the real shy type or live in a large town with many cleaners in your neighborhood, but for those in small towns or extremely modest thankfully there are other options.

Hand washing is probably the next best thing. It can be done with a gentle touch and won't damage fragile garments. If you choose to hand wash, it is best to use cold water to avoid shrinkage. Use a mild detergent recommended for delicates and soak in the sink or a bowl for about 25-30 minutes. Drain and refill with clean water and soak an additional 10 minutes. Gently turn the lingerie with your hand to remove the remaining soap. Once should be sufficient but feel free to complete cycle again for heavily soiled or stained garments.

If you don't have time to mess with hand washing then machine washing on the gentle cycle is a great alternative. Many of today's machines offer a delicate cycle that works wonderfully for intimates. Despite their gentleness, a lingerie laundry bag is highly recommended to prevent damage to lace, bows, ribbons, and hooks. Again, use cold water and a detergent specially recommended for delicates. Never use bleach as it can be too harsh and damage the delicate material your lingerie is made from. Remember to separate dark and light colors so they will not discolor one another.

For drying your lingerie, you should hang it up or reshape and dry flat. Never wring out lingerie. If you desire to put your lingerie in the dryer, leave it in the lingerie bag and set to the lowest possible setting.

Following these simple guidelines will ensure you can enjoy your favorite lingerie even longer.

At www.verysupersexylingerie.com you will discover how to look like a gorgeous lingerie model in your well cared for lingerie.
